Help your child find their inner games developer!
This workshop will give participants the chance to step into the shoes of a game developer and build their own arcade-style adventure. In just one hour, they will: design a hero, choose a battleground, code enemies, and challenge themselves—and each other—to beat the high score.
Two sessions are available:
Tuesday 12 August
- Session 1: 10am–11.15am
- Session 2: 12pm–1.15pm
What's Involved
- Using Microsoft MakeCode Arcade participants will code and design their very own arcade style video game
- Working off a custom template they will choose their characters, update and edit the enemies, select the background, add a score, lives, and countdown timer, and make small adjustments throughout to improve their game
What They'll Learn
- An understanding of how to access and use MakeCode Arcade
- Pixel art design tips and tricks
- How to debug a game and improve the code
- And best of all participants will leave with a copy of their video games to take home and send to friends and family!
Additional Information
- No prior coding or game design knowledge is required
- All equipment will be provided by the Nerve Centre
- MakeCode Arcade is a free website and no personal login details are required to use
