Nerve Centre Shortlisted for Two NI Social Media Awards for Groundbreaking Projects

Nerve Centre has been shortlisted for two prestigious NI Social Media Awards.

Our 'We Can Do Better' project and overall social media efforts have earned us nominations for Most Impactful Campaign and Best Social Media Campaign in Charity/Public Sector/Education/Not-for-Profit. The recognition is a testament to our innovative approach to social media and creative ways we communicate the impact of our projects.

We Can Do Better

Embarking on an emotional journey of co-creation, 'We Can Do Better' brought together Joe Caslin, Imperial War Museum, National Trust, and Nerve Centre. Throughout a 9-month engagement programme, a group of young women, self-styled as the Kindred Collective, reflected on what it means to be a young woman in post-conflict Northern Ireland. Forming friendships for life through this life-changing programme, the collective’s thoughts, feelings and experiences were visually interpreted through Joe Caslin’s large scale art piece at Downhill House and celebrated with a weekend of events involving tours, Seanchoíche storytelling and music from RUÁ at Mussenden Temple.

From a social media perspective, the project was a dream collaboration. Over 275,000 accounts viewed our homegrown content, as we captured the full story and visual spectacle on camera from early preparation to the official launch weekend. Our online visibility reached new heights, setting new social media records for Nerve Centre.

Seen Exhibition

The beautiful outdoor exhibition gave a voice to asylum-seeking children through art. Collaborating with renowned children's author and illustrator Oliver Jeffers, Nerve Centre facilitated a day of drawing and storytelling for the children. Each child's artwork became the foundation for a portrait, co-created by Oliver Jeffers, depicting the child holding something they love or desire.

The exhibition stood beautifully in Belfast’s Thanksgiving Square in May and is now moving into Belfast Trust centres across the city. The exhibition not only garnered over 20,000 impressions from a handful of social media posts but also led to substantial media coverage, including a feature on BBC Radio Ulster’s ‘The Ticket’. We were thrilled for Anaka Women’s Collective to represent the exhibition, using the platform to discuss the vital work they do and the harsh realities of being an asylum seeker in Northern Ireland.

Inspiring Creativity Through Learning

Our Creative Learning Centres based in Derry~Londonderry and Belfast deliver creative digital projects through Northern Ireland’s classrooms and communities. Our incredible teams are always on the move delivering fun-filled workshops in film, animation and gaming. While inspiring young people and opening their minds to new possibilities, we’ve collaborated with some wonderful local organisations like Sproaí Agus Sport, Creative Ireland, Ulster Museum, Into Film and Cinemagic. Our participants love seeing their creative masterpieces shared on our social media pages, almost as much as our audiences enjoy watching them.

Northern Ireland Now

Northern Ireland Now: Contemporary Collecting, in partnership with NI Screen, is an innovative outreach and digitisation project increasing representation in the Digital Film Archive. This vast database contains hundreds of hours of moving image footage from 1887 to the present day. Programme Co-ordinator Elspeth Vischer has met with groups across the entirety of Northern Ireland to collect footage which represents the contemporary, culturally diverse society of the north today. We loved popping along to Elspeth’s workshops to gather content for our social channels, capturing the behind-the-scenes vibe that our audiences love.

Nerve Centre and the projects we produce strive to uplift marginalised voices and encourage creative development through the arts. We’re proud to offer a wide-range of community engagement programmes that inspire, educate and empower, and are grateful to both give and receive support throughout the Northern Irish arts sector. The NI Social Media Awards nominations reflect our team's dedication to creativity and desire to continually explore new ways of pushing creative horizons.
