Italian Film Club at Nerve Cinema — a series of ongoing screenings showcases Italian culture and Italian language through contemporary and classic titles from Italian cinema.

80th anniversary of Roberto Rossellini’s neorealist masterpiece in a new 4K restoration.

Rome, Open City is a timeless classic of world cinema, which garnered both the Palme D’or from Cannes Film Festival and an Oscar® nomination (Best Adapted Screenplay).

Filmed on the streets of Rome and in an improvised studio during the immediate aftermath of WWII, the film follows life under Nazi occupation in the Eternal City, as resistance leader Giorgio (Marcello Pagliero) must evade the Germans and Italian collaborators while eliciting help from Pina (Anna Magnani) and Don Pietro (Aldo Fabrizi).

Described by Martin Scorsese as “the most precious moment of film history” — launching Rossellni, Magnani and writer Federico Fellini into the international spotlight — Rome Open City remains the signature work of Italian neorealism, laying the foundations for post-war Italian cinema and the golden age to follow.
