Biography
Dave Duggan is a novelist and dramatist based in Derry, writing in both English and Irish. He received a Major Arts Award from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland in 2010. His detective novel Oak and Stone (Merdog Books, 2019) was listed among the best international detective novels of the year by The Irish Times. His stage dramas, including Gruagairí (2007) and Makaronik (2014), were produced by Aisling Ghéar.
Duggan's works, such as The Greening of Larry Mahon (Guildhall Press, 2004) and A Sudden Sun (Guildhall Press, 2012), reflect his versatile storytelling. His theatre work has been showcased in Ireland, Edinburgh, Liverpool, New York, and Afghanistan, with plays like Spike Dreams and Still, the Blackbird Sings enjoying national tours. He collaborated with Sole Purpose Productions on Plays in a Peace Process (Guildhall Press, 2008) and wrote Chezzie’s Chance for the City of Derry Jazz Festival (2018, 2019).
His film and television contributions include the Oscar-nominated Dance Lexie Dance (Raw Nerve Productions, 1996). Duggan’s latest novel, Ór agus Mil (Cló Iar-Chonnacht, 2022), and his upcoming collection of essays, Journeywork, a Creative Life, set for publication in 2024, continues his exploration of creative themes.
