Queer Artists: Fighting for a FutureQueer artists have always been pioneers, pushing boundaries and challenging societal norms. As LGBTQ+ representation grows in media, we're also witnessing a concerning erosion of human rights and a marginalisation of intersectional issues. In this climate, queer artists, screenwriters, playwrights, and others face significant hurdles in bringing their work to life. They must navigate complex funding landscapes, institutional biases, and the ever-present threat of censorship. What can we say and not say? Who decides what gets seen? Stacey Gregg, a talented playwright and screenwriter, joins forces with Laima Kreivytė, a renowned Lithuanian art critic and curator specialising in censorship and Conor Mitchell, a skilled composer and producer. With Natalia Mallo, a Brazilian producer and artist serving as Chair, and Monical Pearl from the University of Manchester,. we'll delve into the self-censorship that often becomes necessary to secure support and the broader implications for artistic freedom. Let's explore how we can foster change and ensure that queer voices continue to shape our cultural landscape.
