The Mission:
To find volunteers who will be part of creating an out-of-this-world experience on planet Earth.
The Project:
You will be part of the team helping to deliver a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of creativity which has been designed by some of the world's most brilliant minds from across science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM), who have come together in an exciting new and unexpected collaboration — Our Place in Space.
The Our Place in Space sculpture trail is a scale model of our solar system that will travel from the banks of the River Foyle in Derry~Londonderry (22 April - 22 May) to Divis and the Black Mountain in Belfast (11 June - 10 July), before heading to Cambridge (30 July - 28 August) and returning to Northern Ireland at the Ulster Transport Museum and North Down Coastal Path (17 September & 16 October).
There is also a new interactive AR app designed to enhance the visitors' experience on the trail and can be used anywhere in the world as well as an innovative programme of learning opportunities. At each location we will also be delivering an epic event programme of live events from live music, to talks, workshops on Divis and across Belfast City Centre.
Mission Location:
Currently, we are seeking volunteers for Belfast at Divis and the Black Mountain. Please let us know if you are available to volunteer in multiple locations and we will be in touch about future opportunities.
What are the opportunities?
There will be lots of ways for you to get involved. You may choose to be part of one or many — the sky's the limit! Help us with event set up, box office, engaging with the public or help out with school tours on the trail.
What is in it for YOU?
We understand that you will be giving up your valuable time to be part of our volunteer crew, so we want to make sure you get something back. During your time with us you could:
Expand your knowledge on the solar system and gain insights into the creative and scientific process behind the project.
Develop and learn new skills to support your career ambitions or personal goals.
Meet new people, make meaningful connections and build relationships with like minded others.
Get your hands on some exclusive Our Place in Space merchandise.
Gain hands-on experience whilst being part of one of the most exciting arts and cultural events to come to our shores.
There may also be opportunities to meet some of the brilliant minds behind the project during your volunteering experience.
How much time do I have to give?
That’s up to you! We will ask for a minimum of 2 hours a week, but we’d love to have you around for as often as you can spare.
