NI Screen Academies Participants Nominated at Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year Awards 2025

Alumni from our NI Screen Academies have received nominations at Ireland's Young Filmmaker of the Year Awards 2025.

Fresh International Film Festival will present the 2025 Ireland's Young Filmmaker of the Year Awards (IYFTYs) on Thursday, 10 April 2025, at 8pm via Youtube.

These awards spotlight emerging cinematic talent, blending creativity and inspiration while offering a glimpse into the future of filmmaking. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for our talented Nerve Centre alumni.

Meet the Nominees

Tragicake | Nominated for Best Comedy

Tragicake, one of two short films created in Belfast by a group of ten talented young filmmakers as part of our BFI Film Academy programme, has been nominated for Best Comedy. 

Storage Space
| Nominated for Best Concept

Eoin Brennan, one of the filmmakers behind Tragicake, has also been nominated for Best Concept for his own short film, Storage Space, developed his AS project.

Feline Fiasco | Nominated for Animation Ireland Award

Erin Saito, a 2024 Animation Academy alum, has been nominated for the Animation Ireland Award for her short animated film Feline Fiasco, created as part of her AS in Film coursework.

Ratted Out | Nominated for Animation Ireland Award & Best Comedy

Current Animation Academy participant Emily Weir has been nominated in two categories — Best Comedy and the Animation Ireland Award—for her short film Ratted Out.

Red Reverie | Nominated for Animation Ireland Award & Best Film

Red Reverie, by Hugo Fearon, was created as part of his AS Film. He went on to attend our 2024 Animation Academy.

Nominated filmmakers will attend a VIP reception featuring food, refreshments, press photography, and red carpet interviews with presenter Faye Shortt. With a black-tie gala theme set for this year’s event, attendees are expected to embrace the occasion with formal attire and red carpet glam.
