On Thursday 22 May, Nerve Centre welcomed Minister for Communities Gordon Lyons to our base in Derry~Londonderry, as part of a wider programme of visits across the city.
During the visit, the Minister had the opportunity to hear about the breadth and impact of Nerve Centre’s work in developing skills, nurturing talent, and providing accessible pathways into the creative industries. From music production to digital storytelling, film, culture, and creative learning, Nerve Centre continues to play a pivotal role in reaching marginalised and disadvantaged communities across the region, bridging skills gaps and inspiring the next generation of creatives.
A highlight of the visit was a session delivered by our Creative Learning Centre team, who hosted an energetic and imaginative workshop for pupils from Primary 5, 6, and 7 at Fountain Primary School. The young learners were introduced to coding and had the chance to design their own games, showing exceptional creativity and enthusiasm.

Minister Lyons surprised pupils with a visit during their session and was impressed by their efforts, commenting on their “amazing games design skills” and praising the initiative for introducing digital literacy and creative problem-solving to young people at an early stage.
His visit offered an invaluable opportunity to highlight the importance of sustained investment in the creative sector and in programmes that give people the tools and confidence needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving digital world.
