From an impressive selection of entries, finalists have been chosen, with 68 films in contention for Best International Short Film, Best Irish Short Film and Best Animated Short Film.
Recipients of the Light In Motion (LIM) Awards qualify for consideration in the Live Action Short Film Category and Animated Short Category of the Annual Academy® Awards without the standard theatrical run. British short films and animations which screen as part of the Light in Motion Awards are eligible for consideration in the Short Film Awards at BAFTA.
Light in Motion Competition Manager Eavan King said:
'Our festival juries have been working hard over the last number of months to bring our audience a fantastic programme of shorts from all over the world. The standard of short film and animation is particularly high this year and film lovers are in for a treat.'
Nine Irish short films are screening in competition this year, with films from BAFTA winner, Oscar® nominee and Derry Girls director Michael Lennox, actor director John Connors (Love/Hate) and a Foyle Film Festival debut for director Claire Byrne (Her Name Is, Spent). Themes reflect the everyday challenges and inner struggles faced around loss, mental health, parenting, reinvention and escapism.
The International Shorts Programme is full of rich stories centred around universal themes of family, loss and conflict. Cannes Official Selection 2019, Anna, screens, as well as The Priest, starring actor and comedian Patton Oswalt. Derry Girls’ Saoirse Monica Jackson plays the lead role in Liverpool Ferry, winner of BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing competition in 2019.
A popular programme with all ages, the Animated Shorts competition features films from BAFTA-winning animator Rich Webber and emerging Northern Irish studio Taunt. In a line-up not to be missed, each film is as visually stunning as the last.
The Light in Motion competition and all Foyle Film Festival screenings will be held virtually, via Eventive. Competition screenings take place from Saturday 20th November to Sunday 29th November at Foyle Film Festival's Eventive page.
