I recently organised a behind-the-scenes tour of Belfast's own JAM Media Studios for our Animation Academy participants. Read on for their experience in gaining invaluable insights into the world of professional animation production right here in Northern Ireland.
Behind the Magic
Upon entering the studio, we were surrounded by concept art, storyboards and character designs — a peek into the imagination and innovation happening here. Cutouts, props and designs as well as a cabinet of awards decorate the studio, including an Irish Film and TV Award for Tilly and Friends and a BAFTA award for Roy.
Getting the Inside Scoop
The talented team of Richard, Jessica and Scott, creators of acclaimed shows like Becca's Bunch, provided an inside look at their animation process. As experts in the field, they walked us through each step, from developing narratives to drafting scenes to bringing characters to life through motion and visual effects. We also got let in on some top-secret plans for an upcoming animation... but our lips are sealed!
Testing Skills During an Animation Challenge
Our participants got to test their own skills during an animation challenge, storyboarding and designing original characters in just 30 minutes! Shout out to Ollie and Beth who impressed the studio with their creative concepts and won amazing prizes — a glimpse into their potential for smashing it in the industry someday.
Leaving Inspired and Ready for Animation Careers
Our group left Jam Media newly inspired by the world of animation, opportunities and the talent right here in Northern Ireland. Our participants gained valuable perspective into the passion and dedication required in a career in animation.
Our academy participants are more determined and equipped than ever to make their mark in the industry!
