STEAM Studio
STEAM Studio is an exciting new digital skills initiative developed by Nerve Centre for Liberty IT offering coding workshops to secondary schools.
About the Project
Working closely with Liberty IT and National Museums NI, Nerve Centre has developed new collaborative workspaces at the Ulster Museum in Belfast and at Galway City Museum, where students engage in coding and technology workshops based around the museums’ collections.
The workshop programme, which has been designed by Nerve Centre, immerses students in museum collections and empowers them to design, code, and create their own arcade game inspired by the museum.

Belfast
Hundreds of secondary school students have already enjoyed free workshops at the Ulster Museum in Belfast, gaining exclusive access to the museum while developing exciting, transferable digital skills.
The games are created using software that is free for schools, enabling continued engagement and learning back in the classroom.
Funded by Liberty IT, the workshops are free for schools, with bus transport costs also covered.
Galway
Following the success of the STEAM Studio initiative at the Ulster Museum, Liberty IT was keen to roll out the experience in Galway, where it has an office presence.
Through a partnership with Galway City Museum, Nerve Centre has developed a workshop experience that explores the maritime heritage of Galway and the surrounding area, supporting students to create their own unique games.
The programme is currently in a development phase ahead of an anticipated full roll-out in September 2025.
