Power Plants
Power Plants is a bold new heritage-engagement programme from the imagination of Oliver Jeffers, exploring how we generate, use and value Power.
About the Project
Power Plants is a thought-provoking project by international artist Oliver Jeffers, will explore humanity’s relationship with power — how we define, generate and value it. More importantly, it will examine how we can repurpose power to restore balance with nature, as we recognise that we belong to the world, not the other way around.
The project’s centrepiece is a sculptural installation of industrial-style chimneys with vibrant flowers ‘growing’ on top and an immersive AR app, featuring heritage content co-produced with community participants, which will tour iconic heritage settings in Northern Ireland and UK.
Zooming in on microworlds within our world, the sculpture will house playful representations of different types of Power, from Nature to Knowledge, Money to Politics, Memory to Love. The viewer will reflect on where we are as a society versus where we want to be, and be inspired to release the Power within themselves.
Power Plants is delivered by an award-winning creative team, led by the Nerve Centre, in partnership with Oliver Jeffers, Eden Project, National Museums NI, and the NI Science Festival, and associate partner True Harvest Seeds.
The project is currently in its research and development phase, so stay tuned for more exciting updates.

Thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund
Power Plants is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to use creativity to explore the generation and use of power, the depletion of native plant species and biodiversity, and the need to protect and repair our natural heritage.
