Nerve Centre is delighted to announce the return of Willie Barrett’s Gweedore Reunion on 1 April 2024!
The Gweedore Bar in the late 80’s and early 90’s was a place where every teenager of the time wanted to be and every band wanted to play.
Under the direction of manager Willie Barrett, the Gweedore became a safe space to be yourself and enjoy some of the best local music talent as well as from further afield — and if you were lucky, a chance to see Willie himself!
As music manager of the bar, Willie turned the upstairs lounge into Derry’s very own CBGB’s where it was often standing room only.
Willie and former Gweedore barman, Jim Norris, along with Helena Doherty, have been working hard over the last few months to encourage bands to play the reunion — and the line up doesn’t disappoint.
The line up includes local songwriter and former Gweedore barman Declan McLaughlin, The Runbacks (led by Glen Tilley), Jim Walker of All Stars fame and Cast of Thousands, Fremonte (led by Terence Morrison), Bam Bam and the Calling (led by Paul McCartney) and Tie The Boy who formed in 1982 — featuring Peter Cunnah, Kevin Williams, Gerry Diver and Tim Hegarty.
As a special treat, the Gweedore Jam session band with Joey, Tony, Frankie and Gerry will also reform for the night and feature special guests, including Jeanette Hutton, Ruairi O Doherty, Wilson Graham, Stevie Gillespie, Lana Campbell and Willie Barrett plus many more.
The last reunion in 2017 sold out, so be sure to get those tickets asap. This is no April fools, but you'll be a fool to miss it!
