Compassionate refugee drama from Ken Loach...

The Old Oak is directed by Ken Loach, written by Paul Laverty and produced by Rebecca O’Brien, and completes their unofficial North East trilogy following acclaimed films including Sorry We Missed You and I, Daniel Blake.

In an unlikely friendship, the landlord of an ailing local pub TJ Ballantyne (Dave Turner) meets a curious young Syrian Yara (Ebla Mari) with her camera. Can they find a way for the two communities to understand each other? So unfolds a deeply moving drama about their fragilities and hopes.

Nominated for BAFTA for Outstanding British Film.

“The film unfolds with a fierce crackle. And a wide lens is in play alongside the micro close-up. The film is a period piece with far-sighted relevance[…] If this is where Loach leaves us, he goes out speaking urgently to the absolute present moment.” — Danny Leigh, Financial Times.

2023. UK/France/Belgium. Director: Ken Loach. Cast: Debbie Honeywood, Trevor Fox, Dave Turner. Duration: 1hr 53mins. Cert: 15. Distributor: StudioCanal.
