This year our Continuing Professional Learning (CPL) week is taking a blended approach. As well as offering creative hands-on workshops in both our Derry~Londonderry and Belfast Creative Learning Centres we are also offering a menu of pre-recorded sessions for both Primary and Post Primary teachers, subs, classroom assistants and technicians enabling you to access them in your own time.
Our hands-on creative workshops will take place from Monday 15 until Friday 19 August in both our Derry~Londonderry and Belfast Creative Learning Centres and will be bookable from Wednesday 20 July.
Monday 15 August | 10am–12.30pm
This hands-on workshop for Primary teachers takes a more advanced look at coding for schools/teachers who already have it in their classroom. Teachers will learn common problem solving techniques, more advanced scratch features, and how to incorporate robots into their classrooms effectively.Please note that teachers should already have experience of using coding in the classroom.

Adobe Online Workshop — Adobe Educator Level 1
The Adobe Creative Educator Level 1 session digs into the ideas from Sir Ken Robinson’s world famous TED talk and how we can use creativity + digital skills to fulfil student potential in traditional subjects. This session will be led by Dominic Traynor and Paul Sandy.
The training lasts 90 minutes and will take place on Zoom. It will look at:
What creativity is, why it is important & what it looks like in action.
Some of the digital skills we can use to bring our teaching to life in new ways.
We’ll use Adobe Express, free to all NI schools, and all get hands on with the tool during the session to create things that are useful in the classroom.

Digital Art & Design at KS2
This hands-on workshop for Primary teachers will explore ways in which digital art and design can be used to enhance WAU topics at KS2 and how these activities can be developed in tandem with ‘unplugged’ traditional forms of art making.
This course supports the UICT Desirable Feature 'Digital Art and Design (previously Working with Images). No prior experience is necessary and all equipment and resources will be provided.

This workshop will guide teachers through the principles of using Minecraft Education within the classroom. Utilising resources from Our Place in Space, we will explore how to teach the topics of space, citizenship and history through the use of Minecraft Education. 3D Design with Tinkercad
This hands-on workshop for Primary and Post-Primary teachers will provide an introduction to designing and editing 3D models in Tinkercad with a focus on navigating a 3D workspace and good practice for making adjustments to designs.
Teachers will also look at the classroom features embedded in Tinkercad for managing pupils' work as well as how to save files for 3D printing or viewing in Augmented Reality.

Creating Podcasts in Garageband at KS2
Garageband is a comprehensive music and audio production app for iPad that can be used for a wide range of audio and music tasks, and is a great way to introduce digital audio at primary school.
This hands-on workshop for Primary teachers will cover all of the main elements of creating a podcast in Garageband, including recording voice, audio editing, using audio loops to create a soundtrack, as well as sourcing music and sound effects.

Stop Motion Animation Techniques for KS2
In this workshop, participants will learn how to plan and create stop motion animations with key stage 2 pupils. It will include tips on idea generation, planning and classroom management as well as hands-on experience of creating different styles of animation, editing and adding finishing touches such as music and titles.
