We are very proud to be hosting Shortcut Film Education Symposium on 21 February 2023 in our brand new Creative Learning Centre at the Odyssey, Belfast.

This free event will launch the entire programme to post primary education, the youth/community sector, mental health/social services organisations and those working with young people at risk across Northern Ireland.

Shortcut's library of European short films have been carefully curated to allow young people to engage with and explore sensitive and challenging social issues which are impacting negatively on their physical and mental health today.

The accompanying education toolkit materials have been written to provide a host of possibilities for the exploration of and creative responses to societal and personal themes and topics such as equality, mental health, racism, migration, poverty, addiction, social media, grief, the environment, sexuality, relationships, social activism, the justice system and rights.

Part 1 | 1.30pm – 5pm

This section will showcase three of the Shortcut films that deal with a variety of challenging issues bringing to the forefront the opportunity to open conversations about racism, bullying, identity, belonging, violence and the justice system.

You will be introduced to each of the films and their accompanying package of support materials as well as practical examples of how the films can be explored by young people.

  • Hydebank - includes Q&A with film director, Ross McClean.
  • Joy in People - includes Q&A with Meredith Colchester & Callum Harrison
  • Black Sheep - includes Q&A with film subject, Cornelius Walker.

There will also be a drama workshop with Bruiser Theatre Company.

*If attending this session we invite you to also stay for dinner from 5–6pm, please confirm this upon booking along with your dietary requirements.
