Ones To Watch: Election
Jim McAllister (Mathew Broderick) is a popular teacher and student government adviser who loves making a difference in his students' lives.
What wins an election? Is it the candidate, the manifesto or the image? Dr Deaglan Page, Associate Lecturer in Psychology with the Open University presents a short talk titled Nixon's Shadow inspired by the infamous debate between Kennedy and Nixon to examine how psychology plays a role in how we vote.
The talk will be followed by a screening of Alexander Paynes classic satire Election starring Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick.
Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon) is the school's consummate overachiever, an alarmingly ambitious go-getter, who is running for student council president. Jim decides to recruit his own president, Paul - a sidelined football hero whose enormous popularity threatens Tracy's chances. As campaign fever sets in, the lines between right and wrong grow increasingly blurry and Jim's life spins out of control.
