Sacred Art - Treasures from the Bog

Sacred Art - Treasures from the Bog

‘I will give you the treasures of darkness and riches hidden in secret places’ - Isaiah 45:3.

Sculptures made of bog oak by Artist John McCauley will feature in a short exhibition in Nerve Centre's old café space.

Rooted in the tradition of sacred sculpture, John McCauley’s latest collection is truly counter culture. Prepare to be stilled.

Each piece is made up of exquisite bronze casting encased in rich bog oak from Cavan, Derry~Londonderry and Down. The bronze element denotes scenes from scripture pointing us to God whilst the gravitas of the bog oak provokes a meditative contemplative experience.

Based in County Down, the artist gained his degree in Fine Art from Oxford Brookes University. He has exhibited extensively and his work can be found in private collections in North America and Europe.

At once serene and impactful, you can catch this two day show in Nerve Centre, Magazine Street, Derry~Londonderry this Friday and Saturday, August 25-26. Free admission, the café will open from 9.30am-5.30pm.
