Ones to Watch: In Bruges

Mon 23 Apr
1:00pm to 4:00pm
Pay What You Want (minimum of £1)

Ones to Watch are back with our next programme of talks as part of our fantastic Screenshots series at the Nerve Centre.

We kick off on Monday 23 April 1pm – 4pm at the Nerve Centre Cinema with the brilliant In Bruges written and directed by Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri,Seven Psychopaths, Six Shooter).

In Bruges will be introduced by video producer and McDonagh enthusiast Conall Melarkey. Conall will present 'Deconstructing the dark comedy of Martin McDonagh' which will focus on his screenplays from his Oscar winning short Six Shooter which won the LIM Awards at our very own Foyle Film Festival to his most recent award winner Three Bilboards Outside ebbing, Missouri. The talk will be followed by a screening of McDonagh’s noir-comedy In Bruges.

In Bruges tells the story of hitman Ray (Colin Farrell) and his partner Ken two hitmen awaiting orders for their next job. Guilt ridden from his last job, Ray waits for word from the boss (Ralph Fiennes) in Bruges, Belgium, the last place in the world Ray wants to be.

"With In Bruges, the British gangster movie gets a Croydon facelift. It may not be new, but it’s a wonderfully fresh take on a familiar genre: f***d-up, far-out and very, very funny." Empire

"Farrell has brought his A-game to this cracking little comedy-noir. McDonagh's whip-smart dialogue hints at Beckett, Tarantino, even Greene." The Guardian

"Every once in a while you find a film like this… an endlessly surprising, very dark, human comedy, with a plot that cannot be foreseen but only relished." Roger Ebert

PLEASE NOTE: The film is certified 18 and contains scenes of strong violence, strong language and hard drug use.

The event is Pay What You Want but we ask that a minimum of £1 i as an entry fee. There will be coffee, tea and caramel Rockys available for audience members on the day.
